Fashion Tips for Women 45 +

So maybe you can't fit into your jeans that you graduated in, that does  not mean you can't still be fashionable! Some trends may be too young, but don't stop looking at current trends. Learn your body type and what looks the best on you and learn to pair current trends with the right accessories to work for you.

Here's a few tips to help...

1. Embrace Timeless Classics:
As women mature, it’s essential to focus on timeless and classic pieces that exude sophistication and elegance. Invest in well-tailored blazers, tailored trousers, maxi dresses or skirts, crisp white shirts, and little black dresses. These versatile staples can form the foundation of a stylish wardrobe. If you are at a place in life where you don't need blazers and trousers, consider dark denim-non distressed with cropped jackets, solid color tees and fun jewels!

2. Find the Perfect Fit:
Proper fit is crucial at any age, but it becomes even more important as we get older. Take the time to find clothing that fits you well and flatters your body shape. Tailored and structured garments can enhance your silhouette and give a more polished look.(see our upcoming posts describing the various body types and how to dress for them)

3. Quality Over Quantity:
Invest in high-quality clothing that will last and stand the test of time. Look for well-made fabrics, attention to detail, and excellent craftsmanship. Quality pieces may be more expensive, but they often offer better werability and FIT better and sometimes you can even size down! Who doesn't love that?!

4. Embrace Comfort:
Comfort should never be compromised for style. Seek out fabrics that are breathable, stretchy, and comfortable to wear. Choose shoes with supportive soles and opt for styles that offer both style and practicality. Let's face it, alot of us are over the stilletos and shoes that hurt to wear. It doesn't mean you have to wear croc's (unless you want to) but go for a low wedge, a nice supportive tennis shoe, and check out cool brands like Reef, Birkenstock, Toms, & Zappos for cute styles.

5. Play with Colors:
Don’t shy away from color! While neutrals are always a safe bet, adding pops of color can infuse vibrancy into your outfits. Experiment with hues that complement your skin tone and bring out your natural glow. You can incorporate color through accessories, tops, or statement pieces. See online tests you can take to determine the best colors for you to wear based on your skin tone.

6. Accessorize Thoughtfully:
Accessories can elevate your outfit and add a personal touch. Opt for quality pieces such as statement necklaces, scarves, or belts that can transform a simple look into something special. Choose accessories that complement your outfits and reflect your personal style. You've worked hard and this an area to splurge on a few statement bags, pretty jewels, frames for glasses, hats, etc.

7. Embrace Your Personal Style:
By the time you reach your 40s and beyond, you likely have a good sense of your personal style. Embrace it and let it shine! Dress in a way that reflects your personality, whether it’s classic, bohemian, edgy, or eclectic. Don’t be afraid to experiment and express yourself through fashion. One of the great things about reaching this age, is we finally don't care as much about what "they" think or what the "rules" are. Although we're offering guidelines, at the end of the day, wear what makes you feel like the amazing woman you are!!

8. Prioritize Versatility:
Choose pieces that can be mixed and matched to create a variety of outfits. This will help you maximize your wardrobe and get more mileage out of each item. Invest in versatile basics and layer them with different accessories or statement pieces to create unique looks.

9. Don’t Be Afraid to Update: THIS!!!!
As you age, it’s important to update your wardrobe periodically to stay current and avoid looking outdated. Stay informed about current trends and adapt them to suit your personal style and preferences. You don't need to hold on to clothes because you paid alot of money for them 10 years ago, or because your friend bought it, etc. If it's outdated, you never wear it, or it is too baggy or saggy on you, get rid of it. There are lots of places to donate clothes to women that really need them and will appreciate them. Now you can buy more current options and not feel guilty about it. Admit it, you wear about 10% of what is in your closet!

10. Confidence is Key:
Above all, wear your clothes with confidence and a positive attitude. Feeling good in what you wear will radiate from within and enhance your overall style. Embrace your age, embrace your body, and embrace your unique fashion sense. If you find yourself hiding in sweats or waiting to buy new when you lose that last 15 lbs-stop-you need clothes now. Buy what you need at every size-you don't have to go crazy if this size is truly temporary, but wearing clothes that are too tight or oversized because you don't feel good, shows that you are someone that is not feelling good right now. Be happy at every size!

Remember, fashion knows no age limit, and women over 45 can continue to embrace style and express their individuality. Use these tips as guidelines and adapt them to suit your personal taste, body shape, and lifestyle. Enjoy the journey of dressing and continue to evolve your style with confidence and grace.
